YOUTH INCLUSION EXPERT
More than half of the world population is under the age of 30. Still young people are yet to be properly represented in many areas, especially in politics. It is my mission to make political institutions more accessible for young people and to make sure that there is not only youth participation, but meaningful youth participation.
Hey, my name is Jahkini. I am 20 years old and at the age of 18 I got elected to work as a Dutch Youth Representative at the United Nations. Thanks to this work I have got the chance to intensively work on the topic of meaningful youth participation, specifically within the context of Human Rights and Security. My mandate as a UN Youth Representative has ended, but my passion for meaningful youth participation has skyrocketed. Building on all the knowledge, practical experience and the developments I got to go through I decided to build my own website. My goal is and stays to make political institutions and business life more accessible for young people and to make sure there is not only youth participation, but meaningful youth participation.
Background & Expertise
DUTCH YOUTH REPRESENTATIVE TO THE UNITED NATIONS
As an elected youth representative to the United Nations I spoke with thousands of young people throughout the Netherlands in the form of consultations. Subsequently we took their input to the UN where were able to give speeches, negotiate on resolutions and host side events.
G20 YOUTH DELEGATE IN 2018 AND 2019
Before going to the summit we did thorough research and consultation with young people involved with the themes. During the summit itself we wrote a policy paper with all other delegates from the G20 countries to present to all the heads of state.
UN CARAVAN TOUR
In a week time we travelled through the Netherlands to speak with hundreds of young people from closed institutions, primary schools, universities and many more to find out how they want te be involved in the decision making proces. At the end we got to channel our input to Ministers and important policy makers in our capital.
